Russia Threatens British Military Targets Over UK-Supplied Missiles — United Kingdom · uk

Russia has threatened possible attacks against British military targets as tensions between Moscow and London escalate over Britain's support for Ukraine's long-range strike capabilities.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Moscow could regard British military assets inside and outside Ukraine as potential targets in retaliation for Ukrainian attacks carried out using British-supplied weapons.

The latest confrontation centres particularly on Storm Shadow cruise missiles. Moscow has accused Britain of becoming increasingly directly involved in Ukraine's military campaign by supplying long-range weapons and supporting Kyiv's ability to use them.

The warning follows Britain's decision to deepen assistance for Ukraine's defence-industrial capabilities, including technology connected with missile production.

However, an important distinction must be maintained: Russia has issued a threat; there is no verified evidence in today's reporting that Moscow has ordered an attack on Britain or that such an attack is imminent.

That distinction matters because rhetoric involving two nuclear-armed states can itself increase tensions without necessarily signalling an immediate military operation.

The development nevertheless represents another deterioration in UK-Russian relations and raises questions about how far Moscow may be willing to go in responding to Western support for Ukraine.
