Russia Launches Fresh Wave of Missile and Drone Strikes on Kyiv — Europe · world

Russia launched a large overnight wave of missile and drone strikes on Kyiv and several other Ukrainian cities, Ukrainian officials said on Sunday, with casualties reported and damage to residential buildings and parts of the energy network.

Air raid alerts sounded across much of the country for several hours. Emergency services said fires broke out in residential districts after debris from intercepted munitions fell on apartment blocks.

AIR DEFENCE

Ukraine's air force said a majority of the incoming drones and cruise missiles were intercepted, but acknowledged that ballistic weapons remain the hardest to counter. Officials renewed appeals to partners for additional interceptor stocks.

ENERGY NETWORK

Energy operators reported localised outages after strikes on substations, with repair crews deployed at first light. Repeated targeting of the grid ahead of the autumn has become a recurring feature of the war.

DIPLOMACY

The attacks came as talks over a possible truce framework remained stalled. European officials condemned the strikes and said they underlined the difficulty of establishing conditions for negotiations.

VERIFIED SNAPSHOT

Targets: Kyiv and other cities. Damage: residential buildings and energy infrastructure. Casualty figures are preliminary and issued by Ukrainian authorities.
